AGE: 25.

PROVENANCE: Gothenburg, Sweden.

NORDIC GIRL: The Scandinavian hails from a coastal city, where she grew up with an actress mother and psychiatrist father. “I was brought up in a very creative environment. I was fortunate to see Mom’s passion towards her acting, and it inspired me from an early age.”

STAGE DOOR: Having moved to Stockholm at age 15 to attend ballet school, Vikander shifted her focus from dancing to acting. “My ballet training made me realize that I don’t need to be too afraid. I’m very grateful for those years.”

TIMELY TALENT: After she appeared in a Swedish TV series and a number of short films, Vikander gained widespread attention in back-to-back costume dramas, A Royal Affair and Anna Karenina. Next up, The Fifth Estate, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, in which she plays an early supporter of the controversial site. “It’s great to be part of something that is going on in real life at the same time, and for the film to be part of that discussion.”

THROUGH THE LENS: With other upcoming movies under her belt, including Seventh Son and Son of a Gun, Vikander has aspirations to move behind the camera, too. “I try to enjoy the journey and not focus on one goal ahead, but I would love to direct one day.”
