The Green Knight WORLD PREMIERE on Monday, March 16 at SXSW

SXSW – The SXSW Film Festival is excited to announce the World Premiere of The Green Knight, a fantasy re-telling of the medieval story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight directed and adapted by David Lowery, will screen at the Paramount Theatre on Monday, March 16, at 5:30pm.

Based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table. The A24 film will open theatrically on May 29, and stars Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson.

We are thrilled to world premiere The Green Knight at SXSW,” said Janet Pierson, Director of Film. “David Lowery is a singular artist with a filmmaking vision that’s both epic and intimate. It’s been beyond exciting to watch his growth as an artist. His newest film is an extraordinary achievement, delivering superlative performances, suspense, and magic with cinematic grandeur which we know our SXSW audience will love.

Lowery’s history with the SXSW Film Festival started in 2005, when he attended with the short Deadroom which he worked on as an editor. Lowery has had his hand in every aspect of filmmaking. He has served in a variety of different roles including director, producer, editor, and director of photography for 15 films. Notable SXSW premieres include It Was Great, but I Was Ready to Come Home, Bad Fever, and Sun Don’t Shine.

Lowery has had a number of shining moments at the film festival. In 2009, SXSW had the pleasure to premiere his first feature film, St. Nick. The following year, he created all of our film festival bumpers, and in 2011, his film Pioneer won Best Narrative Short. On the conference side, Lowery served as a mentor in 2013, and in 2016 Lowery participated in a conversation with fellow filmmaker Andrew Bujalski, where they delivered invaluable perspectives for the next wave of aspiring creatives.

UPDATE – March 6, 2020: City of Austin Cancels SXSW March Events

The City of Austin has cancelled the March dates for SXSW and SXSW EDU. SXSW will faithfully follow the City’s directions.

We are devastated to share this news with you. “The show must go on” is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.

As recently as Wednesday, Austin Public Health stated that “there’s no evidence that closing SXSW or any other gatherings will make the community safer.” However, this situation evolved rapidly, and we honor and respect the City of Austin’s decision. We are committed to do our part to help protect our staff, attendees, and fellow Austinites.

We are exploring options to reschedule the event and are working to provide a virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible for 2020 participants, starting with SXSW EDU. For our registrants, clients, and participants we will be in touch as soon as possible and will publish an FAQ.

We understand the gravity of the situation for all the creatives who utilize SXSW to accelerate their careers; for the global businesses; and for Austin and the hundreds of small businesses – venues, theatres, vendors, production companies, service industry staff, and other partners that rely so heavily on the increased business that SXSW attracts.

We will continue to work hard to bring you the unique events you love. Though it’s true that our March 2020 event will no longer take place in the way that we intended, we continue to strive toward our purpose – helping creative people achieve their goals.

Marvel Considering Alicia Vikander For Kate Bishop In ‘Hawkeye’

FULL CIRCLE CINEMA – With Hailee Steinfeld’s schedule in flux, Marvel Studios may be looking elsewhere for its Kate Bishop. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander is being considered for a lead role in Hawkeye.

It was initially reported late last year that Steinfeld was in talks to play the young archer. However, it was later revealed her contract with Apple may prevent her from starring in the highly anticipated Disney+ series. Marvel has stayed quiet in regards to their search for Kate Bishop, but luckily Richtman has revealed some exciting news on his Patreon.

During a Q&A, Richtman explained that Marvel is looking at multiple actresses in case Steinfeld is unable to sign on for the role. The studio is reportedly looking at several stars similar to the Steinfeld, most notably Vikander. The Swedish actress is best known for her roles in Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and for playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot.

In addition to Vikander, Richtman also mentioned that Marvel Studios is also looking at Shailene Woodley for Kate Bishop […] While Vikander and Woodley are both older than Steinfeld, they seem to fit the look Marvel is going for. It should also be noted that neither actress may officially be in talks for the role; instead, they may be who the studio is considering as a replacement […]

Hawkeye will begin streaming on Disney+ in 2021.

POP CULTURE CONFIDENTIAL“I thought a lot about growing up, about finding your own voice, who you are, what you want to do and the struggle of getting there!” We are thrilled to bring you this special and personal conversation with actor Alicia Vikander! She talks to us about starring as feminist icon Gloria Steinem in the upcoming film The Glorias (directed by Julie Taymor), about how she has has found her voice and what she wants to do with her Hollywood power!

After more than a decade in the industry, and post Oscar-win, Alicia Vikander speaks to Christina about how she is learning to take small breaks and how cooking helps! About her focus and how she and Steinem connected in personal ways. How, early in her Hollywood career, an actress spoke up for her in an uncomfortable, sexist situation and how much that taught her. And how she wants to use her voice and her power to play women from all angles and all dimensions and to get smaller movies with interesting writer/directors off the ground, like her upcoming film Blue Bayou. And much more!
